Serological diagnosis of West Nile virus.

چکیده
States would not have known of the existence of a flavivirus known as West Nile virus (WNV). Indeed, most clinical microbiologists and medical laboratory scientists, would only have had a limited knowledge of the virus. All that has changed in the last three to four years. In 1999, WNV emerged in New York and from there has spread to most of the continental United States, with successive seasons seeing the migration of the infection north, south, and west from the New York epicenter. WNV has a broad host range, including birds (the primary host), humans, and other animals. Indeed, WNV has had a significant health and economic impact on horses and industries dependent upon horses, such as horse racing. That birds are the primary host of WNV is important to the understanding of the importation and spread of the virus. As based on available evidence, the New York outbreak appears to have resulted from the importation of WNV via viremic migratory birds, with an isolate from a dead bird in New York being closely related to a 1998 isolate of WNV from a goose in Israel.

Flaviviruses in Europe: Complex Circulation Patterns and Their Consequences for the Diagnosis and Control of West Nile Disease
In Europe, many flaviviruses are endemic (West Nile, Usutu, tick-borne encephalitis viruses) or occasionally imported (dengue, yellow fever viruses). Due to the temporal and geographical co-circulation of flaviviruses in Europe, flavivirus differentiation by diagnostic tests is crucial in the adaptation of surveillance and control efforts. Serological diagnosis of flavivirus infections is compl...
متن کاملSerological evidence of West Nile Virus infection among humans in the southern Provinces of Morocco.
INTRODUCTION The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of West Nile Virus infection in the southern provinces of Morocco. METHODOLOGY A total of 250 sera, collected during 2012 in the province of Dakhla, were analyzed by microneutralisation assay. RESULTS WNV-neutralizing antibodies were detected in 13 samples (5.2%). The participants with WNV-specific antibodies were sign...

BACKGROUND: West Nile virus (WNV) is a vector-borneagent that is maintained within a bird-mosquito cycle. In humansand equids, infection by this agent is usually asymptomatic, orcharacterized by a mild febrile illness. However, fatal meningoencephalitisor encephalitis may occur. OBJECTIVES:The aim ofthis study was to evaluate the prevalence of WNVinfection andcorrelation of this organism with h...
متن کاملSecond International Diagnostic Accuracy Study for the Serological Detection of West Nile Virus Infection
BACKGROUND In recent decades, sporadic cases and outbreaks in humans of West Nile virus (WNV) infection have increased. Serological diagnosis of WNV infection can be performed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescence assay (IFA) neutralization test (NT) and by hemagglutination-inhibition assay. The aim of this study is to collect updated information regarding the perform...

Abstract Background and Objective: West Nile virus (WNV) is a member of the genus Flavivirus that can cause viral infections in human. This study aimed at detecting IgG antibodies against WNV in patients of two cities of Neka and Shiraz. Material and Methods: the participants were 46 possible WNV case from Neka (13 women and 10 men) and Shiraz (10 women and 13 men). IgG assay was ...
